Tips for saving at Disney Parks.

Updated: Feb 20, 2020

This is hard to write because Disney is probably the most expensive vacation places in the country these days. You have to be smart with your money and try not to overspend...I know, that was hard to say haha! You all know frugal is my middle name (not really lol) but I hate spending money on unnecessary things but trust me, it can be avoided even at the happiest place on earth!

The first thing I will say, and I know this can't apply to everyone, but an Annual Pass is one of the best ways to save money. While they are still up there in price, if you plan to go often it's a really good deal. You can pay monthly if you are a local and each pass has discounts on food and merchandise. Here's more details on Disneyland and Walt Disney World passes. I know WDW is a better deal if you're able to make it to Florida often, I wish we could!

There are Starbucks tips below!

For Disneyland, we like to stay near the park to avoid paying for parking (currently $25). The Disneyland website offers great deals on Good Neighbor Hotels which are all within walking distance. We almost always stay in these hotels but I find them on sites like Expedia and Orbitz. Sometimes they are a little cheaper in price on those sites .

Motel 6 is about a 15 minute walk.

You can see the Matterhorn and Guardians from Motel 6

For Walt Disney World, I suggest the Value Resorts. They are so fun and themed and can range from $70+ a night (depending on time of year and days of the week). Every resort offers transportation to the parks so you don't have to pay for parking.

Bring your own food. Both Disneyland and Disney World allow food (no coolers but backpacks are okay). We've brought filling snacks, sandwiches, Capri Suns, travel size food, etc... That way we only buy 1-2 meals as opposed to multiple for the day. And water is always free so you don't have to drag a bunch of bottles with you!

Some of the bars and restaurants in Downtown Disney and Disney Springs offer happy hour (mostly weekdays) but they have really good deals on food and drinks. Click the links for HH details.

This is one of my faves!

I also suggest kids meals and sides. The portions are very generous at the parks so kids meals always fill me up!

Side of fries for $3.99 (price may vary within parks)

If you can, order Starbucks on your way to the parks. I know you won't get those cute Disney cups but you will save a couple bucks! And if you can't get coffee along the way, the Starbucks in Downtown Disney (Disneyland) is a little cheaper than the one in the parks UNLESS you have an annual pass, then your discount can be used in the park. OR order park coffee, it's at least $2 cheaper than Starbucks.

There are two Starbucks in Downtown Disney and Disney Springs. This is the DD location across from World of Disney.

I will admit it's hard to say "no" when you're looking at all the Disney snacks but I would definitely have a budget. Snacks can run from $4-$10 each. Most of the snacks are shareable portions so you can feed 1-3 people with one item (obviously depending on the item). Popcorn is one of cheaper, shareable snacks, you get a decent amount for $5.25 and if you have a popcorn bucket you can save some for later!

The parks offer lots of prepackaged treats as well as bakery items.

Just like the meal portions, the snack portions are just as big! You can easily share or save leftovers.

If you can, stock up on Disney clothing and accessories BEFORE your trip. There are so many stores that offer such adorable and unique tees. Some of my faves are Target, Forever 21, Boohoo, H&M, Uniqlo and Walmart. There are outlets 15 minutes from Walt Disney World and they have a Disney outlet store! I have found SO MANY gems there for wicked cheap, we always stop there before the parks. Sadly there is no outlet near Disneyland.

Clothing in the parks is double the price of other stores.

Always set aside a certain amount for merchandise inside the park. This will definitely eat up your money if you let it. Some of the merch is very overpriced and that alone is something that makes me walk away but you can get some great souvenirs that won't break the bank. Here are some examples of great inexpensive souvenirs!

You can't go wrong with a .51 souvenir! All the parks have multiple penny machines located throughout. They even have pressed-penny cases you can buy to display your collection!

You can find small souvenirs in the checkout line. They also have magnets and pins that are decently cheap.

And lastly, skip on buying photopass. Cast members are more than happy to take photos with your phone and camera.

I think that covers the basics! Don't feel like you need to spend money to make memories!

Yes the food and merch is cute but be smart, Disney will and can suck up all that money haha! Tag me on Instagram (@golden_aimeee) and let me know how you saved!

-xoxo, Aimee
